A man accused of crashing a stolen vehicle into a police cruiser during a failed escape in Langford now faces multiple charges.

West Shore RCMP say the incident happened shortly after midnight on Sunday.

A patrol officer spotted a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu sedan with a stolen licence plate.

When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the driver refused to pull over.

Police responded by setting up a blockade along Sooke Road.

The driver crashed into a police cruiser positioned at the blockade.

No one sustained injuries during the collision.

Officers arrested the 36-year-old man at the scene.

He now faces charges including resisting arrest, possession of stolen property, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and operating a vehicle while prohibited.

Police placed him in custody, and he is scheduled to appear in court in July.
