So far in 2025, 25 men have been executed by court order in the United States.
Six additional executions are set to take place in five states before the year ends.
Mississippi and Florida carried out the most recent executions. Alabama, Arizona, Indiana, Louisiana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas also participated earlier this year.
The total matches the figures from 2024 and 2018 — both years saw 25 executions, the highest since 28 in 2015.
Here is a look at the latest executions and upcoming schedules by state:
Mississippi
Richard Gerald Jordan, 79, was executed on June 25. He was convicted for kidnapping and killing Edwina Marter in 1976.
Florida
Thomas Lee Gudinas, 51, was executed by injection on June 24 for the rape and murder of Michelle McGrath in 1994.
Michael B. Bell, 54, is scheduled for execution on July 15 for the 1995 double murder outside a Jacksonville bar.
Tennessee
Byron Black, 69, is scheduled to die on August 5. He was convicted of killing his girlfriend and her two daughters in 1988.
Harold Nichols, 64, faces execution on December 11 for the rape and murder of Karen Pulley in 1988.
Alabama
David Lee Roberts, 59, is set to be executed with nitrogen gas on August 21. He was convicted of killing Annetra Jones in 1992.
His defense claims mental incompetency due to schizophrenia. If carried out, this would mark Alabama’s seventh nitrogen gas execution.
Texas
Blaine Milam, 35, is scheduled for lethal injection on September 25. He was convicted in 2008 for the murder of a toddler during an alleged exorcism.
Missouri
Lance C. Shockley is due to be executed on October 14. He killed Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Dewayne Graham in 2005.
Ohio
Governor Mike DeWine postponed five scheduled executions until 2028.
The delay stems from issues sourcing lethal injection drugs. No additional executions are expected during DeWine’s current term.
